Watch our annual campaign video to learn more about how we've spent the last 60 years uniting our community to empower people in need.
Since 1957, United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County has been meeting the most pressing needs of our community through the cultivation of grant dollars, volunteers, and vital resources that serve non-profits in our area. We do this by connecting valuable resources- donors to causes, volunteers to needs, and organizations to opportunities all with the goal of empowering individuals and families to get back on their feet.
We serve as the hub for human services in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County and are often the place people turn when they don't know where else to go. We recognize that having a centralized resource for our community is important and only strengthens the current organizations we have here in the Valley.
Our Impact in the Community
Day of Caring
Our annual day of service that takes place every May and brings together employees of local businesses, community members, and skilled professionals to serve the needs at local non-profits all across Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. This past year, 450 volunteers stepped up and completed over 2,500 hours of service for our community.
Stuff the Bus
Every August United Way joins forces with Harrisonburg Radio Group, WHSV TV3, The Salvation Army, and Walmart stores to host Stuff the Bus. Volunteers came together at three different Walmart locations to ask for donations, and this year we collected over $140,000 worth of supplies to support students at both Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County Public Schools.
Formerly Rebuilding Together, Build United helps provide a stable and safe environment for low-income homeowners in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County communities. Examples of work include installing ramps, remodeling vital areas of the home for wheelchair accessibility, installing grab bars and roll-in showers, weatherization, and repairs to make the home safer and more comfortable.
