Support On the Road Collaborative and our Career Enrichment programming!

With your donation today, you will connect low-income MIDDLE and HIGH school youth in Harrisonburg City with dynamic career enrichment learning experiences and caring adult professionals from their community.

OTRC Career Enrichment Classes are a unique part of our afterschool learning programs that help our youth learn about a wide-variety of careers in a hands-on, real-world way. The classes meet weekly afterschool for 10 weeks and are led by local professionals known as Community Teachers and supported by our trained educators.

Career Enrichment Classes are provided for the 300 youth we serve annually across our three program sites (Skyline Middle School, Thomas Harrison Middle School and Harrisonburg High School).

Our youth have an opportunity to participate in up to eight (8) different 10-week long Career Enrichment Classes each year, exposing them to many different career options and helping them discover their interests and strengths.

Since our inception in September 2015, we have offered nearly 100 Career Enrichment Classes in a wide range of career fields, including banking, barbering, construction, computer science, culinary, environmental science, healthcare, law, media, photography, police & fire and veterinary, just to name a few.

OTRC Career Enrichment Classes include a field trip as a way to extend youth learning into the community and connect them to local resources. Youth have visited everything from the local airport for their Aviation class to Sentara RMH Medical Center for their Inside Healthcare class.

At the end of the 10-week classes, youth participate in a culminating Learning Showcase where they ‘teach-back’ what they have learned to their families, teachers and community. In addition to our school-based Learning Showcase events, our youth have led a four course pop-up restaurant, hosted a mock open house for their real estate class and argued a mock trial in the circuit courthouse in front of a judge and jury.

Make a gift now and join us this Giving Day in helping underserved youth discover their interests, build confidence and new skills, and develop a vision for their future. Thanks!
