Who we are:
Now in its twenty-seventh year, the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir (SVCC) based in Harrisonburg, VA, includes more than 220 youth in three classes and three choirs under the artistic direction of Janet M. Hostetter.
The beauty and reputation of SVCC have afforded the choir the honor of performing for presidents and other dignitaries, and opportunities for traveling and performing in the US and beyond. Equally important to SVCC is sharing that beauty and excellence with our home communities and continuing to draw a diverse and rich group of young people into our choir family.
What we do:
SVCC changes and enriches lives by providing:
A musical home for young people who love to sing – a place where, as choristers have described it: “People get me!”
Musicianship training that is both rigorous and joyfully child-centered.
Outreach experiences for local public schools and other organizations.
A standard of artistry, excellence and discipline that affect our young people’s lives far beyond music and long past their choir graduations.
How your donations will help:
SVCC tuition covers only 61% of SVCC’s operating expenses. (Operating expenses do not include trip costs, which choristers earn and raise themselves.) Your donations will enable us to keep tuition affordable for families of diverse means in our community, and will allow us to continue sharing the invaluable gift of music with tomorrow’s choristers, families, and audiences.
