The Harrisonburg Rockingham Child Day Care Center was established in 1971 in response to a recognized need for child care in the community.
Our center is a United Way funded agency licensed by the State of Virginia, with a capcity to care for up to 111 children between two and eight years of age. We offer a sliding fee based on the parent's weekly gross income.
In order to provide the sliding fee scale we rely on funding from United Way, Virginia Department of Social Services, USDA, grants and other fundraising.
Since our 1971 beginning, the center has been housed in two local churches, currently Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, but we are not affiliated with any religious group or denomination.
We have focused on fundraising to purchase our own space and in the summer of 2017, we secured enough money through donations and fundraisers to purchase a building in downtown Harrisonburg.
The one story building will have to be completely renovated. We hope to move into our "dream home" in 2021, when we celebrate our 50th anniversary. This dream would not be possible without the help of our wonderful community, family and friends!
For the Great Community Give, we are setting a goal of $10,000 to help purchase new and updated laptops and a colored printer for office use, classroom equipment and furniture as well as playground equipment that we can use now, and then take with us when we are able to move into our new building.
